Responsibilities- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements and document preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter in accordance with guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of students’ learning styles and needs.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs according to guidelines.
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Participate in extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
- Be a positive role model and support the mission of the school district.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and development.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Communicate information accurately and clearly, using effective communication skills.
- Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills.
- Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file required physical and computerized reports and records.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Complete the CISD Reading Academy according to established timelines at the time of hire.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
- Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons during standard work hours and, when needed, extended hours.
- Communicate with students, parents, and campus District personnel during standard or extended hours.
- Adhere to professional responsibilities and deadlines, including professional communication and responsiveness.
- Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
- Translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
- Attend and apply District-approved professional development in up-to-date practices for virtual instruction.
- Accurately report required student data, including attendance and grades.
- Dress professionally for online instruction; maintain a quiet, confidential space.
- Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and student development.
- Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who need additional help.
- Support extracurricular activities as required by District guidelines.
- Attend all required campus and District meetings.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- Valid ESL certification
- Valid Reading Academy Certificate of Completion, if applicable
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Knowledge of the subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged and/or irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
