Job SummaryWe are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering function in our medium voltage switch gear division. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of switch gear design, a passion for mentoring engineers, and a strong understanding of industry standards and requirements.
Job Duties- Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team in the design and development of medium voltage switch gear products.
- Translate single-line and three-line electrical drawings into mechanical layouts, including 3D renderings and detailed side views.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet clearance requirements and functional specifications across various voltage levels.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and product management teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards including ANSI, ASME, NEC, and UL.
- Drive continuous improvement in mechanical design processes, tools, and documentation.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical oversight throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Maintain responsibility of Engineering schedule and KPIs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field required
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design of medium voltage switch gear is required
- Proficient in interpreting and working from single line and three-line diagrams required
- Proven understanding of electrical clearance requirements at various voltage levels required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written required
- Background in manufacturing or industrial environments required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong expertise in 3D CAD tools:
AutoCAD and Solid Works experience preferred - Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements (ANSI, ASME, NEC, UL) preferred
- Prior leadership or team management experience is highly preferred
- Experience in Lean/Six Sigma preferred
- Experience with design for manufacturability and cost optimization preferred
- Exposure to switch gear testing and validation processes preferred
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering talent preferred
- Prior leadership or team management experience is highly preferred
