As an entry-level Engineering Technician / Designer for the Electrical Distribution team at Tech Serv, you will begin with 2-3 weeks of hands‑on job training. After completing training, you will work under the general supervision of Project Coordinators to create high‑quality designs for new builds, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, including electrical distribution design, transmission, and substation design.

You will work as part of a team to support various project phases, including planning, site evaluation, design analysis, report preparation, construction documentation, and more. Over time, you will work with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients. Travel is required for this position (approximately 20% of the time).

This position serves as an entry point for additional levels of growth throughout the company (e.g., Engineering Technician II, III, IV). The ideal candidate for this role has a strong interest in working with technology and working in a team setting in an open office plan.

• Use proprietary drafting software (CAD) for client projects, including new builds, alterations, redevelopments, etc., and work with Engineers to implement design changes into the system.
• Execute a variety of electrical design assignments using the client’s distribution standard drawings and comply with NES procedures.
• Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark‑ups on ongoing projects.
• Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects.
• Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
• Review design drawings for quality assurance to ensure projects are within scope, budget, and schedule.
• Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
• Work with leaders and team members to facilitate/support internal change efforts to increase organizational effectiveness.
• Assist with the set‑up of projects in applicable project management systems and ensure accurate data entry.
• Travel to regional job sites per client specifications (20%).

• Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, and Solid Works – preferred, but not required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others, including Project Managers, Engineers, and other Tech/Designers.
• Knowledge of electrical design, calculations, and design systems is a plus.
• Experience working with electrical distribution systems is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Associate’s Degree in Drafting / Design Technology (or similar) is preferred, but not required.
• Microsoft Office Suite (emphasis on Excel).
