We have an immediate need in the Bryan/College Station, TX area for a Construction Inspector for our Water/Wastewater division. The successful candidate will support our current staff while assisting in growing the W/WW Inspection practice to better service our clients statewide. This role offers opportunities to maintain existing client relationships, broaden STV’s service offerings geographically, be involved in major transportation Water/Wastewater projects, mentor junior staff, and promote a culture of healthy work-life balance.
Responsibilities- Under supervision, coordinate and perform observation of large diameter W/WW utility installations, excavation and backfill, tunneling, lift stations, and concrete buildings/structures construction projects according to the specific areas of expertise of the inspector; perform related duties as required.
- Conduct on-site observations of construction installations, including materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, construction safety precautions, minor concrete structures, traffic control devices, and erosion and siltation control installations to determine compliance with contract plans and specifications, and with city and other governmental regulations.
- Review construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.
- Participate in meetings to discuss construction details and resolve issues with contractors and other project stakeholders.
- May make field measurements.
- May ensure conformance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
- Assist in coordinating materials testing.
- Identify on-site project problems and alert appropriate members of the project team on non-conformance issues.
- Monitor the correction of project deficiencies and identify/recommend approval of necessary contract and/or plan adjustments to accommodate field conditions.
- Maintain daily diary and field records of material and quantities used.
- Calculate and recommend formal approval of appropriate progress payments to contractors for work completed.
- Investigate citizen complaints related to encroachment and/or grading violations.
- Applicant preferred to possess a minimum of 2 years of inspection or construction experience.
- Broad expertise or unique knowledge, using construction concepts skills, able to work on significant and unique issues and projects requiring evaluation of intangibles.
- Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Contacts pertain to significant matters often involving coordination among groups; occasionally provides consultation and advice to management regarding matters of considerable importance to the functional area.
- Exercises judgment to independently determine methods and procedures for completing new or special assignments.
- Occasionally provides direct or indirect supervision to other personnel.
- Compensation Range: $64,994.00 - $73,856.00
