Position Information

TxDOT's Houston District is looking for a Transportation Engineer Tech I or II, based in our Montgomery Area Office. Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Transportation Engineer Tech II

Performs intermediate design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Transportation Engineer Tech I

Prepares field notes.

Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Engineer Tech II

Includes all essential duties listed for Transportation Engineer Tech I as well as:

Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Transportation Engineer Tech I

Education
:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience
:
No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications
:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Transportation Engineer Tech II

Education
:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience
: 2 Yrs. in Drafting, design, or plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).…
