Position Information

TxDOT's Houston District is looking for a Transportation Engineer, based in our Montgomery Area Office. This position involves performing engineering work that includes planning project development, design and project management. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. The role also encompasses project management for PS&E, cost estimation and scheduling. Work requires interaction with private entities and government officials.

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

  • Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
  • Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
  • Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
  • Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
  • Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
  • Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
  • Reviews literature, technical data, material specifications and procedures.
  • Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.
