CompanyA privately held, operating business with meaningful scale and a long-standing presence in its market is seeking a senior finance leader to oversee its accounting and financial operations. The organization operates in a project-oriented, execution-driven environment where financial discipline, visibility, and operational alignment are critical to continued success. This role will work closely with executive leadership and serve as a central steward of the company’s financial infrastructure.
Purposeof the Role
The Financial Controller will have broad responsibility for the integrity, structure, and execution of the company’s financial operations. This individual will ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective financial processes while partnering closely with leadership and operating teams. The role requires a hands-on leader who can balance day-to-day execution with longer-term process improvement and organizational development.
Key Responsibilities- Partner closely with executive leadership and operational teams to translate business activity into clear, actionable financial insight
- Participate in recurring operational and performance reviews to evaluate trends, surface emerging risks, and support timely course correction
- Design and maintain a practical set of performance indicators and reporting tools that support ongoing decision-making
- Develop scalable methods for capturing and analyzing financial and operational data across customers, projects, regions, and service categories
- Lead short- and mid-term financial planning efforts, including forward-looking outlooks, capacity planning, and annual financial targets
- Actively manage liquidity by monitoring cash activity, forecasting near-term needs, and supporting disciplined working capital management
- Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, improve visibility, and enhance overall efficiency and profitability
- Ensure alignment with external compliance requirements, including regulatory, contractual, and reporting obligations
- Serve as the primary liaison with outside advisors related to financial reporting, assurance, and tax matters
- Oversee the integrity and completeness of the organization’s financial records through disciplined close, review, and reconciliation practices
- Maintain consistent application of accounting policies, internal controls, and governance standards across the organization
- Provide leadership and direction to a multi-functional accounting team supporting transactional processing, payroll, billing, collections, and project setup
- Support the ongoing development of the finance organization through coaching, prioritization, and performance management
- Oversee core accounting operations, including financial reporting, cost tracking, and work-in-process monitoring, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Progressive accounting leadership experience, including time spent in a senior controllership or equivalent role within complex, project-driven (construction services related) organizations ideally exceeding $100m in annual revenue
- Strong command of GAAP and long-term contract accounting methodologies, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Must have strong knowledge of Percentage of Completion accounting - project-based financial concepts such as cost tracking, retention, and job-level performance management
- Experience working with construction-oriented ERP systems or similar project accounting platforms
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to guide teams, partner cross-functionally, and communicate effectively with senior leadership
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, operationally intensive environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Advanced degree preferred but not required
- Professional certification - CPA or MBA strongly preferred
- Direct experience supporting project-based, percentage-of-completion accounting environments strongly desired
