Assessment Specialist (PRN)
Job Type: PRN
Schedule:
At least 4 PRN shifts per month required, either 11:00 AM-11:30 PM or 7:00 PM-7:30 AM.
The Assessment Specialist receives inquiry calls and assists callers with scheduling a face‑to‑face assessment or triage to the appropriate community referral. They assess or provide a qualified mental health professional with assessments for patients who present for assessment, screen for medical and behavioural emergency conditions, perform comprehensive assessments, and provide quality therapeutic care to patients seeking treatment for substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotional disorders.
They coordinate with the clinical team/on‑call physician to ensure needs are met and interpret treatment plans to patients and families. They complete administrative processes of admission and precertification of care with external payers.
- Facilitate response to a request for services, including the initial response, assessment, referral process, designation of appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow‑up activity;
- Conduct initial evaluation, initiate assessment, document patient symptomology, functioning, and needs and provide information to MD for LOC determination;
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously;
- Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA;
- Maintain all pre‑admission and admission paperwork accurately, and complete all pre‑certification with insurance companies.
Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required or Master's degree in Social Work/Counseling required.
License: Current clinical, social work, or RN license as required by state regulations.
Certifications: CPR and De-escalation certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
Prior
Experience:
Preferred experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility working with adult and geriatric patients. Must have strong clinical assessment skills.
