Purpose and Scope
The Part Time Assistant II, Biology Lab (Teaching Assistant) provides support to faculty and helps facilitate student learning in the Biology Department for the following classes:
Majors Biology I & II, Non-Majors Bio I & II, Microbiology, and Anatomy & Physiology I & II. Position provides assistance to both faculty and students during labs, encourages student engagement and critical thinking, proactively supports the department, and maintains laboratories to ensure a clean and safe work/laboratory environment.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, fellow lab assistants, and students.
- Proficient in standard biology lab protocols.
- Specialized skills in anatomy and physiology.
The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as laboratory models. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above-average agility and dexterity.
Work Schedule and ConditionsThe work involves regular exposure to outdoor elements, and/or regular exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals, toxic or caustic materials, contamination, and electrical hazards. This exposure requires special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of Biology 2401.
Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60.
