Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Medical Technologist performs routine, complex, or specialized bacteriological, hematological, chemical, immunological, serological, and immunoassay procedures on body fluids.
Responsibilities- Process specimens, perform testing, and report results independently without supervision.
- Maintain required competencies in all assigned departments.
- Demonstrate accuracy for all testing performed.
- Observe patient safety, risk management, and infection control policies and procedures.
- Perform related quality control and required proficiency testing according to policy and procedure.
- Continue personal and professional growth to maintain competence.
- Identify and assist with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by managing time, reducing waste of supplies, and promoting cost‑effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
- Advocate for and protect the health, safety, and rights of patients.
- Interact with patients and colleagues with compassion and respect for all individuals.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, business office, and medical records to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Fulfill attendance, punctuality, and timekeeping requirements.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve unit, facility, and organization goals.
- Uphold professional and organizational standards, practicing ethically and with integrity.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science (MT/CLS) from an accredited institution.
- MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of Blood Bank clinical experience and sufficient experience to independently cover the department.
