Responsibilities
- Complete independent multi‑disciplinary evaluations to assess students for speech impairment or disorder.
- Provide therapy aligned with speech and language goals in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Evaluate student progress and determine therapy service levels.
- Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee, interpreting assessment data for placement, and goal setting.
- Collaborate with colleagues, students, and parents about therapy goals, student needs, and involvement in the therapeutic process.
- Work with classroom teachers to plan and implement activities that improve communication skills and generalize them academically.
- Provide professional development in assigned schools to help personnel support students with communication disorders.
- Create a conducive learning environment and offer positive behavioral supports.
- Ensure students follow the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Develop a system for monitoring student progress (data collection).
- Participate in selecting equipment and instructional materials.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records.
- Comply with federal, state, board, district, and campus policies.
- Supervise licensed speech‑language pathology assistants or interns as needed.
- Engage in professional development to enhance job skills and licensing requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an ASHA‑recommended program.
Education/Certification
- Master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from an accredited institution.
- Valid Texas license as a speech‑language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR).
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to use standardized tests and informal measures to diagnose speech impairment or disorder.
- Knowledge of evaluation and treatment of speech‑language disorders.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
May direct and monitor the work of Speech Language Pathology Assistants or interns.
Physical and Mental Demands- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
- Posture: Frequent sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension.
- Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraints; assisting non‑ambulatory students.
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure.
Pay Grade AE‑4 - Minimum pro‑rated salary: $73,349.
