Forest Products Trader

- Conroe, TX Our client is an established organization serving independent lumber and building materials businesses. They provide purchasing programs, supplier partnerships, market resources, and business support to companies throughout the industry. They are seeking a Forest Products Trader to join their team. This position will focus on buying, selling, and trading commodity lumber and forest products while managing supplier and customer relationships, commodity pricing, sourcing opportunities, and margins.
The ideal background includes commercial responsibility for lumber or forest products purchasing, sales, trading, pricing, or sourcing within a wholesale, distribution, manufacturing, buying group, or high-volume lumber environment.
- Buy, sell, and trade commodity lumber and forest products
- Manage relationships with customers, suppliers, mills, distributors, lumberyards, dealers, wholesalers, and other industry partners
- Develop new business opportunities while managing and growing existing accounts
- Monitor commodity lumber markets, pricing, supply and demand, product availability, and market movement
- Negotiate customer and supplier pricing and terms while managing profitable margins
- Identify lumber sourcing and purchasing opportunities based on customer demand and commodity market conditions
- Manage commercial activity involving commodity purchasing, sales, pricing, sourcing, and product categories
- Work with the Forest Products team to support sales, purchasing, and department profitability
- Track competitive conditions, commodity pricing, supplier costs, and market fluctuations
- 3+ years of experience within commodity lumber, forest products, or a closely related commodity wood products environment
- Direct experience buying, purchasing, selling, or trading commodity forest products
- Experience managing commodity pricing, market fluctuations, supply and demand, and margins
- Experience developing and managing relationships with mills, suppliers, lumberyards, dealers, distributors, wholesalers, or other forest products customers
- Base salary in the 90k - 110k/year range
