Job Summary
The Assistant Sign Technician performs several job functions under the supervision of the Street & Drainage Superintendent. This position plans, coordinates and directs activities within the sign department to provide Traffic Management Services.
QualificationsEducation and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of three years of experience in traffic markings, sign installation and maintenance.
Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial driver's license.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge (intermediate) of computer software and programs.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate light construction equipment, pavement marking equipment, sign production equipment, computers and GPS equipment.
- Ability (intermediate) to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses and encyclopedias.
- Ability (intermediate) to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, rations/proportions and measurement.
- Ability (intermediate) to write reports; prepare business letters, expositions and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
- Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort required, exerting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally; 10-25 pounds frequently.
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to utilize independent judgment and decision‑making abilities as necessary.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use professional attitude, tact and courtesy necessary to deal with internal and external customers.
- Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.
- Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to obtain licenses/certifications to perform work assignments.
- Ability to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
- Ability to be available 24 hours on‑call every other week.
- Ability to understand and follow City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.
The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, fingering, grasping, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
