Mechanic II

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Mechanic II to join our Fleet Services Division. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for Fleet upkeep and a variety of maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and ready to support daily operations to keep our fleet safe, functional, and well-maintained.

Pay is based on experience. The pay range listed is subject to increase after probationary period and time-in-service.

• Performing vehicle maintenance, such as oil changes, replacing parts
• Conduct preventative maintenance
• Perform various semi-skilled functions and general maintenance tasks
• Work with equipment such as but not limited to:
• Tests systems, equipment,etc. for proper operations
• Support fellow Mechanics with advanced projects as needed
• Special projects and any other assigned duties

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• certifications preferred
• At least one (1) years' prior experience in vehicle maintenance is preferred
• Ability to operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment
• Ability to physically perform tasks including standing/walking for long periods of time; sitting/walking on uneven ground; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying objects up to but not limited to 90 lbs.; reaching, bending, hearing mechanical sounds, communication, crouching/kneeling; close and far vision, depth perception; handling/grasping objects; ascending/descending a ladder
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a background investigation
• Must possess a current valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years
• No conviction above a Class B Misdemeanor or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last 10 years nor have been on or currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense
• Must possess good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, and the ability to work as a team
• Must have reliable transportation
• Basic working knowledge of MS Office products
• Must be able to work independently or with a group
• Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure
• Willingness to cross-train and accept additional duties as assigned
• Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Must be willing to be on-call, work adjusted shifts, and/or work overtime during times of high volume or local emergency events, which may include nights, weekends, or holidays

After receiving a conditional offer of employment applicant must pass the following before becoming an employee of Montgomery County:

• Drug screen(1/2 cost = $25, responsibility of applicant)
• Physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant)
