CNC Machinist

The Machinist – CNC HBM is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC Horizontal Boring Mill machines to manufacture large, precision components according to engineering drawings and customer specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining practices, blueprint interpretation, quality control, and safe manufacturing procedures to ensure high-quality production and on-time delivery.

• Set up and operate CNC Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) machines for precision machining operations.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
• Select and install tooling, fixtures, and work holding devices appropriate for each job.
• Load materials and accurately align large work pieces for machining.
• Monitor machine performance and adjust offsets, speeds, and feeds as required.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Conduct tool changes and routine machine maintenance.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
• Maintain production records and document inspection results.
• Follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean work area.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous three (03) years’ experience operating CNC Horizontal Boring Mills required.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T principles.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with production teams.

• Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, or similar CNC controls.
• Knowledge of G-code programming and editing.
• Experience machining large components and complex geometries.
• Familiarity with overhead cranes and rigging procedures.
• Understanding of tooling selection, feeds, speeds, and machining processes.

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to lift materials (up to 50lbs) and tooling as required.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, heavy equipment, and moving machinery.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
