Under the general direction of the Clinical Coordinator for the OB/GYN Unit, the Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to adolescent, adult, geriatric and neonatal patients admitted for medical/surgical/OB/GYN problems. The RN utilizes the nursing process to ensure safe and competent quality patient care. The RN supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff and provides leadership by coordinating with ancillary nursing and other patient care team members.

The RN may provide direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel in providing patient care. The nurse is responsible for identifying learning needs to enhance personal and professional development and may attend workshops, classes, seminars and in-services. Duties may vary by assigned area.

• Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate care for a specific patient population.
• Develop Plans of Care with realistic goals.
• Perform procedures basic to the general well-being of the patient.
• Assume responsibility for own communications and communicate through appropriate channels.
• Educate patients and/or significant others about disease, healing process and treatment plan.

• Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse or proof of application for licensure.
• Graduation from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
• BLS certification.
• ACLS certification (must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment).
• NRP certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
• STABLE certification required as a one-time certification (new hires have 6 months to complete if not previously obtained).
• 12 months acute inpatient experience required.
