We are searching for a Physician Assistant or a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who is motivated to work in an exciting pediatric setting! In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide developmentally appropriate and age‑appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions. The NP or PA works under a delineation of clinical privileges and will work collaboratively with other members of the health care team.
Practice under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the APP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. Job duties are performed in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served. As an advanced practice provider, the NP or PA is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.
- Required Bachelor's Degree
- Master’s degree in nursing (required for PA)
- PA – Cert – Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board
- RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact
- FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing
- Pediatric Emergency Medicine experience preferred
- Provide medical services within the education and training of the Physician Assistant within the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician.
- Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record.
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document in the patient’s medical record.
- Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and document in medical records.
- Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records.
- Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data.
- Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care.
- Establish a relationship with the patient/family characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration.
- Use advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients’ caseload.
- Assess the patient’s physical status through a thorough physical examination.
- Perform or recommend age‑appropriate health screening procedures.
- Provide health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages.
- Perform and evaluate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests.
- Analyze multiple sources of data and formulate a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians.
- Follow established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems, formulate a plan of care, and coordinate with other health care professionals.
- Accurately evaluate patient responses to interventions and modify the plan of care, documenting all findings and plans.
- Communicate effectively and work to eliminate communication barriers.
- Collaborate with other health care disciplines to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Utilize effective interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and/or family and collaborate in developing the care plan.
- Request consultation and/or initiate referral for specialized care as appropriate, communicating the comprehensive assessment, impression, and plan of care.
- Serve consistently as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals.
- Apply new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice.
- Maintain knowledge base by reading professional literature, attending staff development, and continuing education programs annually.
- Participate in department and hospital committees and quality improvement programs.
