Job Summary

The role requires a self‑scheduled nurse, posted four weeks in advance, who works in a culture of mutual respect and collaboration among all surgical staff. The nurse will provide clinical support in an ambulatory care setting, participating in surgical rounds, peri‑operative patient education, and emergency response.

What you will do in this role
  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
  • Provide patient and family education about the procedure and peri‑operative process.
  • Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
  • Participate in surgical site verification (briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols).
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
  • Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care while managing evidence‑based practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team, including providers, surgeons, surgical technologists and more.
  • Apply the nursing process, critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care.
  • Assess patient condition, monitor throughout the shift, and document changes and care thoroughly.
  • Educate patients and families/caregivers about medical condition, treatment and follow‑up measures.
  • Be on call during select non‑business hours.
Qualifications
  • Two years nursing experience in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and certification.
  • CNOR preferred / ACLS and PALS required after 6 months of hire.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking and teamwork skills.
