Purpose and Scope: This position is responsible for the coordination of general functions in the science laboratory environment. Functions include coordination of services, delivery of materials, coordinating events, organizing resources, tracking laboratory materials, tracking equipment, and assisting with running the lab.
Essential Job Functions- Knowledge and/or experience with infection control policies and procedures and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA).
- Astute and broad knowledge of the sciences and related safety protocols for the successful handling of day-to-day operations.
- Working knowledge of sterile/aseptic techniques for microbiology.
- Organizational, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimum instruction and cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty and staff.
- Capable of performing required duties with minimal supervision.
- Good safety record and safety consciousness.
The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
Work Schedule and Conditions- Equipment used includes PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, various lab equipment and safety/protective gear appropriate to the material being taught.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
- Work is performed mostly in a climate-controlled lab environment with potential exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals and biological, toxic or caustic materials, contamination, or mechanical moving parts. At times work is also performed in outdoor environments such as specimen or water collections and may encounter a variety of conditions.
- High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Hourly Pay Rate is $17.58.
