Installation Technician, General Labor
Coordinates and performs advanced skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Serves as a lead worker and trains other technicians. Work includes coordinating and maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments;
however, all unusual issues are referred to a supervisor.
Assists in scheduling and assigning work.
Serves as a lead worker by advising, training, and instructing employees in shop policies and procedures; acting as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage.
Coordinates and conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retro reflective pavement markers (RPMs).
Coordinates and inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.
Coordinates and maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies and equipment.
Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions.
Orders signs from the regional sign shop. Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.
Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Experience
: 5 years in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Licenses and Certifications
:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
