Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician I performs ordinary, labor-intensive tasks commonly related to water and sewer system construction and maintenance. Also assists operator in any way necessary to complete the job. Must be able to work on-call duty and be available to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must possess a valid Class "C" Driver's License or higher.
• Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License or be able to obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's permit within 90 days of hire date and obtain a Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License within one year from hire date.
• Must be able to obtain a Class I sewer collection license and a Class D water license within one year of hire date.

• One year of experience in Public Works preferred.
• Ability to understand and abide by City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.
• Must be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
• Must be able to work as many hours as required to complete jobs.
• Must be able to attend after-hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications/licenses when necessary.
• Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.
• Must be able to lift weights up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.
• Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
• Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for long periods of time.
• Must be capable of reading, writing and communicating in English.

The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
