Position SummaryThe ATS Houston office is seeking a hands‑on Lightning Protection Technician to support our growing Lightning Protection group.
This is a field-focused position for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, working outdoors, and being part of a technical team. The Lightning Protection Technician will work alongside Project Managers, Consultants, Engineers, and other field personnel performing inspections, repairs, installations, testing, and retrofits of lightning protection systems on commercial buildings and industrial facilities.
Our work includes air terminals, main conductors, down conductors, bonding connections, grounding electrodes, connectors, fittings, and other components associated with complete lightning protection systems.
This is a strong opportunity for someone with construction, electrical, roofing, mechanical, maintenance, installation, or skilled‑trade experience who wants to build a long-term technical career. Previous lightning protection experience is a plus, but we are also interested in strong hands‑on candidates who are willing to learn.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities- Assist with inspections of existing lightning protection systems on commercial and industrial facilities.
- Install, repair, replace, and retrofit lightning protection components including air terminals, conductors, bonding connections, grounding electrodes, connectors, and fittings.
- Assist with layout and routing of lightning protection conductors and system components based on project drawings and field conditions.
- Use hand and power tools including impact drivers, drills, hammer drills, grinders, wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, crimping tools, and other installation equipment.
- Assist with drilling, anchoring, fastening, bolting, assembly, layout, and installation of lightning protection equipment.
- Perform continuity testing, field measurements, visual inspections, and other testing or verification activities as required by project scope.
- Work safely on rooftops, near roof edges, from ladders and lifts, and at heights while utilizing appropriate fall protection equipment.
- Assist Project Managers and field personnel with site measurements, photographs, system component identification, and documentation of field conditions.
- Maintain accurate field notes and help organize information required for inspection reports, repair recommendations, and project documentation.
- Load, unload, maintain, and organize tools, testing equipment, materials, and company vehicles.
- Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, building engineers, property managers, roofers, electricians, and other project personnel.
- Follow ATS safety procedures and site‑specific safety requirements at all times.
- Travel to project sites throughout the Houston area, Texas, and occasionally out of state as project needs require.
- Perform additional field and project‑related responsibilities as experience and technical knowledge increase.
- High school diploma or equivalent; a college degree is not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong hands‑on experience using common hand and power tools, including impact drivers, drills, hammer drills, grinders, wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, and similar equipment.
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot, assemble, install, and repair equipment in the field.
- Works well as part of a team and is comfortable working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Consultants, and other Technicians.
- Positive attitude and willingness to jump in and help the team as project needs change.
