Our teams integrate metallurgy, welding science, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing expertise to deliver industry‑leading drilling solutions that enhance reliability, extend bit life, and reduce operational costs.

About

the Role

The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for designing and delivering advanced analytics and agentic AI systems that enhance drilling performance, operational decision‑making, and digital capabilities across DBS.

This role operates at the intersection of data science, software engineering, and domain expertise—developing intelligent systems that can reason, act, and automate workflows using real‑world drilling data. The position works closely with engineers, product teams, and operations to translate complex data into scalable, production‑ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, architect, and implement agentic AI systems using appropriate orchestration patterns, frameworks, LLM integrations, and tooling to support complex, risk‑aware workflows.
  • Own end‑to‑end delivery from prototype to production, ensuring strong data grounding, reliability, human‑in‑the‑loop controls, escalation paths, and graceful failure behavior in live systems.
  • Integrate agentic systems with enterprise data sources, internal APIs, and third‑party tools in compliance with security, privacy, and data governance policies.
  • Identify opportunities to automate workflows and enhance decision‑making using AI‑driven approaches.
  • Partner with process owners, domain experts, and governance teams to translate business problems into trusted, usable AI solutions.
  • Contribute to development of data science and AI strategy within DBS.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies in Gen AI and recommend adoption to improve capabilities.
  • Support intellectual property development, including publications and patents.
  • Participate in industry forums, conferences, and technical communities.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related STEM discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience in software or related domain.
  • 2+ years specialized in AI/ML, LLM solutions, and hands‑on development of agentic systems and autonomous workflows.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, REST APIs, prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and stateful agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., Lang Graph or equivalent).
  • Experience in deploying and operating LLM/agent workflows in production, including monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience with Azure AI Foundry or comparable platforms for agent development, deployment, evaluation, and safety controls.
  • Working knowledge of Azure‑based cloud environment and Databricks.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
  • Self‑directed learner with strong problem‑solving skills and practical business judgment.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or higher in a STEM field.
  • Exposure to drilling, oil & gas, or industrial data environments.
  • Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams (engineering, product, operations).

Candidates who exceed minimum job requirements may be considered for higher‑level roles depending on experience, additional qualifications, and business needs. Opportunities include advancement from Data Science Engineer Senior – Data Science Engineer Principal – Data Science Engineer Advisor.
