CTE Teacher – Construction Trades

Qualifications
  • Education and Certification
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned. (Trade and Industrial Education Grades 6-12 or 8-12 with appropriate work approval)
    • Texas Administrative Code (TAC) requires that candidates seeking CTE certification based on skill and experience must complete an approved educator preparation program (EPP)
    • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, two years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching
    • OR an Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution, two years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching
    • OR a High School Diploma or equivalent, five years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching
    • Eligible military experience may be used in lieu of civilian experience; your EPP will review for eligibility
  • Additional Requirements
    • Valid Texas Driver’s License
    • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non‑refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Experience
  • 3-5 years classroom and/or industry‑related experience
  • Experience coordinating projects and competing with students at the regional, state and/or national level (i.e. Skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan the long and short range objectives for assigned courses
  • Develop lesson plans with the appropriate essential elements
  • Collect and use a variety of information to guide the growth and development of individual pupils
  • Maximize amount of time available for instruction
  • Demonstrate effective teaching methods and selects appropriate teaching materials using a variety of activities to develop student interest and performance
  • Establish standards for individual pupils in terms of ability levels
  • Create a classroom climate conducive to pupil intellectual, social, emotional and moral development
  • Manage pupil behavior and activities to allow for learning
  • Communicate effectively with students
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on pupil performance continuously by utilizing a variety of sources to insure mastery of the essential elements
  • Teach for cognitive, affective, and/or psychomotor learning and transfer
  • Maintain accurate student accounting records and other records in compliance with local and state requirements
  • Participate in in‑service workshops
  • Participate in extracurricular activities as assigned
  • Plan for and engage in professional development
  • Interact and communicate effectively with parents and school staff
  • Participate in the planning, presentation, and evaluation of various school activities
  • Emphasize safety by testing all students on the appropriate procedures of all equipment
  • Manage the classroom and shop/lab in such a manner as to promote learning effectiveness and to provide maximum supervision of the students
  • Supervise and sponsor activities of the appropriately approved CTE student leadership organization (Skills

  • Provide students information about post‑secondary training programs
  • Seek recommendations, advice, and updated skill methods from advisory committee members by promoting industry/business involvement in the program activities
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision and evaluation of District personnel is not a requirement of the position; however, the supervision of students is required.
