Position: Power Systems Engineer I

The Power System Engineer I is an entry level position for the Engineering Studies department that will introduce the fundamentals of what power systems analysis and overcurrent protection is.

Responsibilities and job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Perform power system studies and demonstrate a good working knowledge of power system planning, design, and operation to ensure systems are efficient, reliable, and safe.
  • For low voltage electrical distribution systems, utilize power system software tools required for performing power system engineering including:
    • Load Flow Analysis, Overcurrent and Protective Device Coordination
    • Short-Circuit Studies
    • Electrical Equipment Evaluation
    • Arc-Flash Hazard Analysis
  • Develop the power system model database within the scope of work using modeling software. Thoroughly analyze the specifications of the project to ensure customer compliance.
  • Prepare written reports which explain the purpose, methodology, data requirements, recommendations, and observations of power system studies.
  • Job folders must be kept up-to-date and contain all pertinent customer and internal correspondence, equipment drawings, design drawings, customer collected data, data sheets, etc. Project documents and system models and other pertinent project data must be properly backed up to network and other external storage media.
  • Allocate and manage time correctly to obtain missing items pertinent to the study, to perform the power system analysis, and to print arc flash labels.
  • Ability to learn and new modules for studies and power system modeling software.
  • Understand electrical safety in the workplace in accordance with the NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, and OSHA.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering software tools.
