Job Summary
The Department of Kinesiology at Coastal Carolina University is seeking a creative, independent, and well-organized undergraduate student to serve as a Department Assistant. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to contribute to administrative and marketing initiatives that support the department’s mission of promoting human movement and preparing future leaders in health, sport, and physical activity. A key component of the position includes compiling a professional portfolio of completed work, due at the end of the Spring Semester, for use in departmental publications and the student’s career development.
The department’s cornerstone program, the Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science, provides students with a comprehensive education in human movement, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sport performance, preparing them for careers in health and fitness, rehabilitation, athletic training, and graduate study in allied health professions.

Key Responsibilities- Event Coverage & Documentation
- Coordinate a weekly schedule of departmental events and assigned tasks each Monday; provide a summary report each Friday.
- Attend designated kinesiology courses and departmental events as assigned. Observe and document activities for use in departmental promotions and communications.
- Capture still photography and limited videography in accordance with university branding and media guidelines.
- Content Creation & Marketing
- Compose engaging written content based on event and course observations.
- In conjunction with the Kinesiology Department Chair and the Conway Medical Center College of Health and Human Performance Media and Communication Director, comply with the Dean’s required training and social media post approval process.
- Develop informational materials for prospective Exercise and Sport Science students.
- Refine and update messaging for the Williams-Brice Bulletin Boards.
- Administrative Support
- Assist the Physically Active Lifestyle Coordinator and Department Chair with equipment and supply inventories.
- Attend and provide logistical or administrative support for departmental events and functions.
- Periodically deliver small packages and mail items to designated recipients or locations.
- Support the procurement of faculty-requested supplies and equipment.
- Portfolio Development
- Compile a comprehensive portfolio of work by the end of the Spring Semester for departmental publication and professional development.
- Must be a currently enrolled student at Coastal Carolina University.
- Interest or background in kinesiology, communications, marketing, journalism or related fields preferred.
- Experience with photography, videography, and social media platforms is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events as needed.
