Phlebotomy Instructor
North West Arkansas Community College (NWACC) seeks a qualified Phlebotomy Instructor to design, develop, and deliver comprehensive phlebotomy training programs to students. The instructor will teach onsite, in person, and will be responsible for curriculum development, classroom instruction, laboratory sessions, and student assessment on a term-by-term basis.
Essential Duties- Develop curriculum and instructional materials for phlebotomy courses, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulations.
- Deliver engaging classroom lectures, demonstrations, and hands‑on training sessions on phlebotomy techniques, safety procedures, and specimen handling.
- Provide one‑on‑one guidance and support to students, including constructive feedback on performance and progress.
- Organize and oversee practical skills labs and simulation experiences to reinforce learning objectives.
- Evaluate student comprehension and proficiency through assessments, quizzes, practical exams, and other evaluation methods.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and lab activities.
- Stay current with advancements in phlebotomy practices, equipment, and technologies to keep program content up‑to‑date.
- Collaborate with other faculty members and administrative staff to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
$765 per credit hour.
Qualifications Required- Bachelor’s degree in a health career field or a certificate in a health career field.
- IV and/or blood draw allowed in career scope of practice with active certification/licensure in that field.
- Minimum of three years experience in a certification/licensure health career field.
- Hold a valid certification or licensure that is required for this position; replacement of these credentials is not permitted.
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from a recognized accrediting agency (e.g., ASCP, NHA, AMT).
- Prior experience in teaching, training, or instructional design.
- Five to ten years experience in the health career field.
- Strong knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, venipuncture procedures, specimen collection protocols, and laboratory safety practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate diverse groups of learners.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio) and HRIS systems.
- Ability to work effectively with employees and all levels of leadership within the institution.
- Strong time‑management, multi‑tasking, and organizational skills.
- Capacity to handle highly confidential material efficiently and effectively.
- Knowledge of planning, research, and analysis techniques; ability to conduct research and perform quantitative quality assurance reviews.
- Comprehensive understanding of venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures, including proper equipment selection, vein selection, blood collection, and specimen handling.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and biohazard safety precautions.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices governing phlebotomy procedures (HIPAA, CLIA, OSHA).
- Proficiency in medical terminology related to phlebotomy procedures and laboratory tests.
- Skill in developing instructional materials, lesson plans, and learning activities that promote active engagement and skill development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills; flexibility to adjust teaching methods based on student needs and classroom dynamics.
- Competence in utilizing instructional technologies, multimedia resources, and educational software to enhance teaching effectiveness and track student progress.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues, healthcare professionals, and industry partners to enhance instructional content and facilitate clinical experiences.
The instructor will be required to sit/stand continuously, use hands for finger, handle, or feel tasks, talk or hear regularly, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional walking and the ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds are required. Close vision is essential.
Environmental ConditionsThe work is performed in a classroom and laboratory setting. The noise level is usually moderate.
