Position Summary

The Department of Art and Design at the University of Central Arkansas invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Lecturer I position in the Interior Design Program beginning January 2, 2027. The department seeks a candidate whose teaching and professional interests connect historical precedent, preservation research, and contemporary interior design practice. In addition to teaching responsibilities, this position will serve as Curriculum and NCPE Coordinator, supporting the Interior Design Program's National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE) Certificate of Proficiency and assisting with curriculum assessment, course coordination, accreditation support, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will support the programs initiatives in historic preservation, sustainability, accreditation, interdisciplinary collaboration, study abroad, and professional preparation. The position will also serve as a strong advocate for the Interior Design Program through collaboration with students, faculty, alumni, advisory board members, professional organizations, and industry partners. This is a nine-month faculty appointment with an expected teaching load of twelve credit hours per semester.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in design history, architectural history, historic preservation, and related subject areas.
  • Teach assigned Art Foundations coursework as needed by the department.
  • Serve as Curriculum and NCPE Coordinator for the Interior Design Program.
  • Maintain student records and documentation associated with the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE) Certificate of Proficiency.
  • Assist with coordination, assessment, and continuous improvement of the preservation curriculum.
  • Work closely with the Program Director to maintain curriculum maps, course sequencing documentation, assessment records, curriculum databases, and course cohesion across the curriculum. This position will serve on the Art & Design Curriculum committee.
  • Support course coordination and curricular cohesion across the Interior Design Program.
  • Participate in curriculum assessment, accreditation documentation, and continuous improvement activities associated with CIDA, NASAD, NCPE, and university requirements.
  • Support study abroad initiatives, experiential learning opportunities, and community-engaged preservation projects.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Participate in recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Serve as a strong advocate for the Interior Design Program and its students.
