Statement of the JobUnder the overall supervision of the Executive Director, Community Programs Director, with direct supervision of the Shelter Manager, the Shelter Support Staff will be responsible for the day‑to‑day support of the shelter, services, health, and safety of the facility and guests.
Essential Functions- Assisting eligible clients with intake, services, and referrals as needed.
- Refer to appropriate agencies or begin the application process.
- Maintain knowledge of all community programs and services.
- Follow Agency, ESG, CSBG, United Way, and other regulations as related.
- Maintain relationships with service providers, volunteers, staff, and community members.
- Responsible for the shelter's daily operations, including food service, facility cleanliness, safety, and security, to ensure a safe and effective environment for employees, individuals, volunteers, and visitors.
- Maintain inventory of shelter supplies and donations for shelter operations.
- Communicate with supervisor about client interactions and incidents.
- Conduct crisis intervention as needed.
- Enter and maintain accurate data in the homeless management information system (HMIS) and the agency database GoEngage or other software systems as assigned.
- Clearly understand data requirements for CSBG reporting and program.
- Respect confidentiality in all aspects of the programs without inappropriate disclosure.
- Follow CAPCA’s policies and procedures at facilities.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal shelter policies and procedures.
- Follow mandatory reporting procedures.
- Be willing to participate in all training designed for professional development.
- Handle stress, tension, and exasperation that contact with adults may bring every day.
- May be called upon to administer first aid at any time in the program; first aid is a collateral duty.
- Perform other job‑related duties as necessary for the overall operation of the programs.
- High School Diploma.
- Knowledge and experience working in a shelter setting (Preferred).
- Experience in managing records and preparing written documents, reports, and other materials both hard copies and electronically.
- CPR and First Aid Certified within 12 months.
- Good physical condition.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the Agency.
- Valid driver’s license, access to transportation with liability insurance, and willingness to use vehicle for Agency travel.
- Able to hear and communicate orally.
- Specific vision abilities: close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; use protective equipment or assistance as needed.
- Read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a dedicated interest in community service projects.
- Initiative to motivate groups of people and stimulate group action.
- Sympathy with the concepts of the Agency.
- Make decisions and work without continual close supervision.

Currently budgeted for 12 months per year.
HoursFull‑Time position, Fri., Sat., and Sun. 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Evening Hours $14.50
