The Hy‑Chi Department Clerk is responsible for filling customer orders, handling food safely, ordering and receiving products, verifying order accuracy, labeling dates, and stocking. The role also upholds a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

Reporting Relations

Accountable to and reports to the District Store Director, Store Managers, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home, Hy‑Chi Department Manager, Assistant Hy‑Chi Department Manager, and Service Managers. No direct reports.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting care, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner throughout the store.
  • Make an effort to remember and use customers’ names when possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to desired products, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, noting and relaying customer suggestions, and performing any task that enhances the shopping experience.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service, including taking orders.
  • Takes customer orders at the Hy‑Chi Department counter.
  • Work with co‑workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Review orders for the day and maintain proper sanitation procedures, ensuring the work area remains clean and neat.
  • Inspect food freshness and ensure adequate supply, following a production list or developing one as needed.
  • Anticipate daily product needs for the department.
  • Prepare, finish, and replenish product as required, pulling from cooler/freezer to prepare for cooking.
  • Check in product, store, and review invoices.
  • Operate the department register, receive payments, make change, etc., where applicable.
  • Remove trash promptly and maintain strict adherence to department and company hygiene guidelines.
  • Follow company policies and store guidelines; report to work on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Wash dishes as necessary.
  • Order products and supplies.
  • Price products for customers.
  • Deliver orders as needed.
  • Assist in other areas of the store as required.
  • Perform other job‑related duties and special projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
  • Follow detailed written or verbal instructions with a few concrete variables.
  • Perform simple addition and subtraction; copy figures, count, and record.
  • Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information upon request.
  • Communicate orally or in writing to request supplies.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent experience and up to six months of related experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Physical Requirements
  • Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, use fingers, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Visual requirements include vision from 20 inches or less to more than 20 feet with or without correction; depth perception and field of vision are required.
Working Conditions

The position involves continual exposure to flour, dust, noise, temperature extremes, and occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents. Work is fast‑paced with significant pressure.

Equipment Used to Perform Job
  • Oven, steamer, scale, big mixer, shrink wrap machine, Telexon re‑ordering machine, register, walk‑in cooler, knives, serving cases, and C.A.R.S. system.
Contacts

Daily contact with internal customers and the general public; weekly contact with suppliers/vendors; contact with Federal, State, or regulatory agencies as necessary.
