The Sanitation Heavy Equipment Mechanic I serves a critical role in the operations of city-wide sanitation services, as this position is fundamental to fleet and facility operations. With a general understanding of both gasoline and diesel engines, this position completes diagnosis, maintenance, and repair on a wide variety of vehicles and light/heavy equipment. This skilled position works roadside and throughout all facility areas;

ensures all working areas are clean and fully functioning and maintains safety and professionalism as priorities in all aspects of daily work.

Salary for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic I position is dependent on qualifications and experience.

High school diploma or equivalent and/or 2 years prior relevant experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for the minimum qualifications.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must possess a minimum of two (2) years prior verifiable mechanical experience.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B Arkansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). On the job training is available.

Must be able to obtain an ASE Freon Recovery Certification through on-site training.

Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Must be willing to work in an adverse physical environment (inclement weather).

Ability to ensure that all contacts with the public and coworkers are courteous and professional.

Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner, wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
