Job Title

We are currently seeking a Journeyperson Line person to join our Utility Lines Construction Services team in the Underground Distribution Construction Department.

Essential Functions
  • Operate the equipment used in excavating, back filling, lifting, and other construction tasks.
  • Assist with installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of underground electrical power lines and systems.
  • Assist with service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
  • Work in hot and cold environments and may be exposed to poisonous plants or reptiles and stinging insects.
  • Work a typical 10‑hour day.
  • Clear the work area and maintain safe jobsite conditions.
  • Excavate to assist in the installation of structures or cable as required by contract specification.
  • Communicate with public and private property owners about work to be performed.
  • Participate in company safety training and adhere to regional safety policies.
  • Assemble materials on the ground and install conduit and cable in ditches.
  • Be trained on traffic flagging as required and work around traffic.
  • Operate various tools (manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, saws, jack hammers, power tampers, etc.).
  • Work near hazardous equipment and energized parts with proper PPE.
  • Accept other duties as required by supervisors and adapt to varying heights, confined spaces, and manholes.
  • Write and receive switching orders for underground primary cables.
  • Perform tasks that may require frequent bending, kneeling, and squatting, such as installing and repairing underground distribution.
Minimum Requirements
  • Safely enter and exit excavations.
  • Terminate underground primary and secondary cables and pad‑mounted transformers, secondary pedestals, and meter boxes.
  • Follow directions, work safely, and be productive.
  • Have endurance for standard 8‑ or 10‑hour days; work long hours, overtime, holidays, emergencies, weekends, and be subjected to call‑out work.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license; current CDL preferred or willingness to obtain a CDL within 90 days.
  • Pass background, motor‑vehicle records, and drug‑screening checks.
  • Pass a DOT physical to obtain a DOT medical card.
  • Maintain attention and concentration during hazardous tasks.
  • Wear required PPE per company policy.
  • Enter and exit vehicles many times daily.
  • Endure all weather conditions (rain, heat, sun, cold).
  • Traverse various terrains.
  • Communicate effectively with others.
  • Lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Have sufficient eyesight and coordination for equipment and tools.
  • Have transportation to and from the show‑up location.
  • Be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
  • Pass a background check.
