Advising Specialist

Normal Work Hours

M-Th 8:00-5:00; F 8:00-12:30. Must be flexible to meet special scheduling needs; occasional nights and weekends required.

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the position of Advising Specialist in the University Advising department (Time Limited – Benefits). Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Ability to multitask, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to follow instructions without close supervision.

• Two years of higher‑education or teaching experience.

• Provide students with information focused on meeting developmental academic needs, including transition to college, exploration of major fields, career options, resources, and university policies.
• Assist students with course planning and registration; maintain accurate advising records and monitor progress toward degree.
• Process student requests and forms in a timely manner; audit semester records to ensure appropriate course selection; provide final audits for graduating seniors.
• Engage in departmental committees and professional development activities.

• Consultation skills; ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
• Strong verbal and written communication; problem‑solving skills.
• Good judgment, interpersonal skills, creativity, and familiarity with FERPA guidelines.
• Discretion in handling confidential information and building trust with students and staff.
