- Recruit and maintain an effective food services staff to meet patient needs.
- Plan staffing schedules, review leave requests, and ensure timely payroll processing.
- Promote staff retention through recognition, open communication, and maintaining positive morale.
- Establish and maintain staff proficiency to ensure provision of quality food services.
- Provide leadership and management to all food service staff and conduct departmental meetings to improve service.
- Provide in-service education and orientation to food service staff and, when appropriate, to other facility staff.
- Evaluate staff performance in line with policies and procedures and ensure timely performance evaluations.
- Provide counseling and progressive discipline as defined in facility policies and procedures.
- Maintain ongoing records of food temperatures, refrigerator/freezer/dish machine temperatures.
- Work with the Safety Committee to provide a safe working environment for all staff.
- Ensure adequate equipment/supplies and maintain equipment in good working condition.
- Monitor safety and efficiency of equipment and coordinate with plant operations for corrections as needed.
- Maintain a sanitary work environment and monitor sanitation and infection control practices for safe meal delivery.
- Develop, review, and implement Dietary Services department policies and procedures and revise as needed.
- Assist with developing the Food Service Department’s Performance Improvement and Quality Management plan and coordinate with other departments to develop and carry out the facility-wide IOP plan with the Registered Dietitian.
- Consult with the dietician regarding nutritional needs of patients and approve menus relevant to therapeutic diets and special needs.
- Participate in developing and maintaining the Dietary Services department budget; manage purchasing, storage, inventory, preparation, and quality of service.
- Maintain relationships with approved vendors and monitor products for quality and cost effectiveness.
- Complete reports and update the CEO on departmental activities on a regular basis.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated responsible food service management experience, with at least two (2) years in a management/supervisory role.
- In the absence of any qualification at hire, candidate must demonstrate the ability to learn concepts and develop skills within a reasonable time frame via orientation and training.
- Associates Degree in Food Services or Hospitality required.
- Bachelors degree in a food services related field preferred.
- Certified Dietary Manager preferred.
