MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) provides healthcare across rural South Carolina. The RN II provides nursing care using the nursing process, directing team members and collaborating with multidisciplinary staff to provide appropriate care within a secure correctional setting.

Work ShiftJob Description
Provides nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and leads other assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide age/developmentally appropriate care. Provides patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Conducts assessments, develops nursing diagnoses, identifies outcomes, plans and implements interventions, provides health teaching, and evaluates care. Ensures a therapeutic environment and participates in professional governance and development.
Correctional-specificresponsibilities include
- Delivering nursing care to inmates/detainees while following correctional facility safety and security protocols.
- Responding promptly to emergencies anywhere within the secure perimeter (medical emergencies, injuries, suicide attempts, etc.).
- Managing care in intake/booking, general population, segregation, and medical observation units.
- Coordinating with correctional officers for safe inmate movement and maintaining awareness of the security environment.
- Maintaining strict control and accountability of sharps, medications, and clinical tools.
- Ensuring proper boundaries, communication standards, and compliance with PREA expectations.
- Documenting care in accordance with correctional medical record requirements and chain-of-custody considerations when applicable.
Bachelor of Nursing preferred. RN staff hired after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must be enrolled in a BSN program within two years and complete it within four years. Minimum one year of RN experience required.
Required Licensure, Certifications, RegistrationsLicensure as an RN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current AHA BLS or Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

- Examples:
To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force are needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force are required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. - Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
