This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526.

As the Registered Nurse, Non-Institutional, working under general supervision, you will plan implement and provide direct nursing care to all patients of Waccamaw Center for Mental Health. Administer medication and/or treatments according to provider or standing medical orders. Initiate/follows-up on referrals when indicated. Promote wellness through activities directed toward prevention and reduction of risk factors, early detection of disease and control and management of identified health problems.

Responsibilities for the Registered Nurse, Non-Institutional:

  • Review hospital discharge information from hospitals and provide information to physicians.
  • Write lab orders for physicians.
  • Provide injections to patients as needed, normally 1 injection every 4 weeks.
  • Perform urine drug screens and other necessary tasks as requested by immediate supervisor and Clinic Director.
  • Promote and help maintain the health of individuals and families through teaching counseling, and rehabilitative measures.
  • Complete and submit clinical services notes within a 24-hour period in accordance with Local Collaborative Documentation Standards.

Minimum and

Additional Requirements:

  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and can provide a 10-year driving record.
Additional Requirements:
  • Licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of nursing.
  • Must be required to hear at normal volumes, stand walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend ability to lift 40 pounds and climb 2 flights of stairs.

Must be able to meet (OMH) Office Mental Health Credentialing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and 2 years' experience; or a 3 year diploma and 2 years' experience; or an associate degree in nursing and 2 years' experience as a registered nurse, one of which must have been in a community health program.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Additional Comments:

  • Through knowledge of the services provided in a comprehensive mental health program serving children and families and adults.
  • Extensive skills in coordinating services with other health and community organizations.
  • Ability to established and maintain working relationships patients and families.
