UTILITY WORKER – Construction Department (Pipe Laying Crew)

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs unskilled work in the installation and construction of water and sewer lines and appurtenances; performs related work as required. Operates under regular supervision.

• Install and repair water and sewer lines as a crew member.
• Assist with water and sewer taps and service connections.
• Make bores and install valves.
• Operate truck, tractor, back‑hoe, air hammer, tapping machine and other mechanical equipment.
• Install fire hydrants.
• Perform landscaping after work is completed.
• Assist with wiring residential grinder stations.
• Perform other related tasks as required.

• Knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines.
• Experience with manual tasks, restraint systems, fittings, hand and power tools and safe operation of common automotive and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under all weather conditions, lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, and lift up to 20 pounds constantly.
• Skill in using appropriate safety equipment and following safe work procedures.
• Ability to drive a vehicle daily.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and sewer lines.

• Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License according to State of residence.

Title advancements and/or promotions depend on performance, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience and other special requirements. No guarantee of progression.

Pay range: $19.36 to $28.07 per hour. Senior Utility Worker or Heavy Equipment Operator: $20.87+ per hour.
