Position: Traffic Control Specialist (Conway SC)

PURPOSE

To assist in the preparatory and laborious work associated with the different departmental trades; pipe, asphalt, grading, curb and gutter, structures, traffic control, etc.

JOB DUTIES
  • Perform work zone traffic control activities as needed and required.
  • Develop and execute an effective and compliant traffic control plan, in conjunction with project management, including individual work activities, to meet project goals.
  • Conduct daily and routine work zone traffic control inspections as required.
  • Responsible for training and development of workers who perform work zone traffic control tasks.
  • Required to operate pickups and/or flatbed trucks, and miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolds, as necessary, to install, maintain or repair traffic control devices.
  • Must also be able to load and unload trucks and haul and lift materials.
  • Complete required paperwork in a timely manner while ensuring accuracy.
  • Assures the proper handling, storage and inventory of work zone traffic control equipment and materials for the duration of the project.
  • Ensure that required tasks are completed in accordance with all applicable company, local, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate any problems or concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as required or directed by their immediate supervisor or other manager.
KNOWLEDGE
  • Most general construction working positions do not require any specific background or knowledge; however, the ability to read, write, add, and subtract whole numbers increases the opportunity to be upgraded or trained in other relevant company skills.
  • Certification through the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) or equivalent recognized authority. Certification can be obtained at onboarding.
  • Proven experience working as a flagger.
  • Sound knowledge of state traffic regulations.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to work in harsh weather conditions.
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Exceptional observation skills.
