Job Description

The Mechanical Project Manager leads large-scale mechanical piping projects across Data Centers, Healthcare Facilities, Hospitals, Industrial sites, and other mission-critical environments. This role manages the full project lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout, with direct accountability for schedules, budgets, profitability, client relationships, and overall project execution. The position requires the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with owners, contractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and internal project teams in a fast-paced construction setting.

Responsibilities

+ Lead mechanical piping projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring successful execution across scope, schedule, budget, and quality.

+ Manage pre-construction activities including preplanning, procurement strategies, and detailed construction project scheduling.

+ Review and approve project budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, allocating resources effectively while maintaining budgetary discipline.

+ Negotiate and draft subcontractor agreements with external vendors to secure favorable terms and support project objectives.

+ Oversee project financials, including profitability, forecasting, cash flow management, and cost controls, with direct accountability for financial performance.

+ Monitor cost-to-complete performance and compare against initial budgets, taking corrective actions to maintain or improve profitability.

+ Identify and resolve design conflicts by collaborating with engineers, architects, owners, consultants, and trade partners to refine project specifications.

+ Lead strategic planning for project submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), procurement activities, and change order processes.

+ Implement monthly cost reports and maintain accurate cost projections to support informed decision-making and financial transparency.

+ Research and recommend construction means and methods, procurement approaches, and project timelines to optimize efficiency and outcomes.

+ Recognize, price, submit, and implement change orders as needed, ensuring proper documentation and client communication.

+ Review and approve supplier and subcontractor invoices, verifying accuracy and alignment with contracts and project budgets.

+ Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and quality standards, promptly reporting and addressing any issues or non-compliance.

+ Maintain a deep understanding of mechanical piping systems, construction procedures, project controls, and project management principles.

+ Coordinate scheduling, logistics, and procurement of equipment and materials to support continuous and efficient project progress.

+ Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for project communication and reporting.

+ Identify and pursue upcoming work opportunities with existing and prospective clients, supporting business development efforts.

+ Plan manpower needs and allocate internal and external resources to meet project demands and timelines.

+ Utilize construction management software platforms such as Bluebeam, Procore, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Project to manage schedules, documents, and project controls.

+ Enforce project procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe, productive, and compliant working environment.

+ Directly supervise subcontractors, Project Engineers, and Assistant Project Managers, providing guidance and oversight on project tasks.

+ Train and mentor Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and junior personnel on technical aspects of project management and company processes.

+ Organize and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, contracts, change orders, procurement records, and project correspondence.

+ Professionally solicit vendors and suppliers during the procurement process to secure competitive pricing and reliable materials and services.

+ Prepare and utilize SWOT analyses and risk assessments for current and future projects to anticipate challenges and inform strategy.

+ Apply strong budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, and project controls knowledge to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

+ Resolve complex project issues related to schedule, budget, manpower, procurement, and execution, maintaining project momentum.
