Mechanical Project Manager
The Mechanical Project Manager leads large-scale mechanical piping projects across Data Centers, Healthcare Facilities, Hospitals, Industrial sites, and other mission-critical environments. This role manages the full project lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout, with direct accountability for schedules, budgets, profitability, client relationships, and overall project execution. The position requires the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with owners, contractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and internal project teams in a fast-paced construction setting.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading mechanical piping projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring successful execution across scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
- Managing pre-construction activities including preplanning, procurement strategies, and detailed construction project scheduling.
- Reviewing and approving project budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, allocating resources effectively while maintaining budgetary discipline.
- Negotiating and drafting subcontractor agreements with external vendors to secure favorable terms and support project objectives.
- Overseeing project financials, including profitability, forecasting, cash flow management, and cost controls, with direct accountability for financial performance.
- Monitoring cost-to-complete performance and comparing against initial budgets, taking corrective actions to maintain or improve profitability.
- Identifying and resolving design conflicts by collaborating with engineers, architects, owners, consultants, and trade partners to refine project specifications.
- Leading strategic planning for project submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), procurement activities, and change order processes.
- Implementing monthly cost reports and maintaining accurate cost projections to support informed decision-making and financial transparency.
- Researching and recommending construction means and methods, procurement approaches, and project timelines to optimize efficiency and outcomes.
- Recognizing, pricing, submitting, and implementing change orders as needed, ensuring proper documentation and client communication.
- Reviewing and approving supplier and subcontractor invoices, verifying accuracy and alignment with contracts and project budgets.
- Ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and quality standards, promptly reporting and addressing any issues or non-compliance.
- Maintaining a deep understanding of mechanical piping systems, construction procedures, project controls, and project management principles.
- Coordinating scheduling, logistics, and procurement of equipment and materials to support continuous and efficient project progress.
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for project communication and reporting.
- Identifying and pursuing upcoming work opportunities with existing and prospective clients, supporting business development efforts.
- Planning manpower needs and allocating internal and external resources to meet project demands and timelines.
- Utilizing construction management software platforms such as Bluebeam, Procore, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Project to manage schedules, documents, and project controls.
- Enforcing project procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe, productive, and compliant working environment.
- Directly supervising subcontractors, Project Engineers, and Assistant Project Managers, providing guidance and oversight on project tasks.
- Training and mentoring Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and junior personnel on technical aspects of project management and company processes.
- Organizing and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, contracts, change orders, procurement records, and project correspondence.
- Professionally soliciting vendors and suppliers during the procurement process to secure competitive pricing and reliable materials and services.
- Preparing and utilizing SWOT analyses and risk assessments for current and future projects to anticipate challenges and inform strategy.
- Applying strong budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, and project controls knowledge to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Resolving complex project issues related to schedule, budget, manpower, procurement, and execution, maintaining project momentum.
