2nd Shift Converting Supervisor
LocationConyers, GA
SummarySupervise approximately 10‑30 people in the daily routine of producing quality corrugated products in a safe, productive manner with minimum waste. Cross‑train employees in key positions.
Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain quality, efficiencies, and production levels set by management and communicate these standards to your staff.
- Report quality concerns to Converting and Plant Superintendent and assist in determining quality guidelines.
- Establish high morale within your department by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems while maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain inventories of sheets, inks and other converting supplies.
- Coordinate with your supervisor and Maintenance Superintendent on any repairs or preventive maintenance performed in the department.
- Keep upper management informed of problems or situations that may affect the performance of your department.
- Enforce corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with violating employees.
- Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
- Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
- Improve career skills by enrolling yourself in seminars, technical courses, and related college courses.
- Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including the safety program and good housekeeping.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Additional duties may be assigned by management.
- Directly supervise all employees assigned to the department.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees.
- Resolve conflicts; build teams; coach and lead employees to improve performance.
- Address complaints and resolve problems; document actions; set an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of prior supervisory experience.
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Mathematical SkillsAble to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy; calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurements, volume, and rate; apply high‑school math concepts.
Reasoning AbilityApply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Technical SkillsWorking knowledge of equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation; cost issues to reduce overall costs and identify improvement areas; quality standards; regulatory requirements including wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, OSHA, DEQ, EEO.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMay be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear; frequently use hands to handle items; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally sit; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WorkEnvironment
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions; occasional exposure to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration; noise level is usually loud.
