The Technical Projects Manager is responsible for leading process execution, manufacturing improvement initiatives, and division-level project management within the Plastic Colorants Division. This role ensures operational efficiency, product consistency, and timely execution of plant and customer-driven initiatives. This position serves as a hands‑on execution leader who drives accountability across Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Technical teams. The ideal candidate is highly organized, action-oriented, and capable of moving projects from concept through completion while maintaining safety, quality, and cost objectives.
Responsibilities- Lead evaluation and optimization of manufacturing processes for masterbatch, pigment dispersions, and colored compounds.
- Monitor and improve key performance indicators including scrap, downtime, throughput, and efficiency.
- Drive corrective actions from root cause analysis of production issues.
- Ensure process documentation, control parameters, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are maintained and enforced.
- Own division‑level project tracking and execution timelines.
- Lead cross‑functional project meetings to ensure alignment and accountability.
- Coordinate capital improvement projects including equipment installations, upgrades, and layout modifications.
- Ensure new product introductions move efficiently from lab scale to production scale.
- Oversee planning and execution of customer trials.
- Coordinate with Technical, QC, and Production teams to ensure readiness and follow‑up actions.
- Support technical sales and customer visits as required.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, waste elimination, and process standardization.
- Train and support production teams on process changes and best practices.
- Partner with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in internal audits and customer audits as needed.
- Perform additional duties as required to support division and company objectives.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of extrusion, compounding, and polymer processing operations preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Proven leadership and accountability mindset.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to interpret process flow diagrams and production data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools preferred.
- Strong communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Comfortable working in a hands‑on manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Engineering, Polymer Science, Manufacturing Management, or related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or plastics processing environment.
- Experience leading cross‑functional projects strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in production/industrial maintenance environment, extrusion or masterbatch production preferred.
