Skilled Laborer – Asphalt Crew

The Skilled Laborer – Asphalt Crew performs a variety of manual labor and equipment-related tasks associated with asphalt paving, patching, grading, and roadway construction projects. This position works closely with crew members and equipment operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality asphalt operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with asphalt paving, patching, and repair operations.
  • Perform handwork including raking, shoveling, lute work, and rolling edges.
  • Assist in preparing job sites by cleaning, grading, and setting up traffic control devices.
  • Operate small tools and equipment such as plate compactors, saws, blowers, and hand tools.
  • Check and maintain proper asphalt mat appearance, thickness, and quality.
  • Assist equipment operators with daily production activities.
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in asphalt paving, road construction, or heavy civil construction preferred.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and working in hot conditions.
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving practices and construction safety procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions from supervisors.
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance required.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
Work Environment:
  • Outdoor construction environment.
  • Exposure to heat, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, and repetitive physical activity.
  • Overtime, night work, and weekend work may be required based on project needs.
