Description of Job Duty:

Admissions Counselors accomplish this by traveling to high schools and community colleges, as well as interviewing students and families when they come to campus for an official campus visit. Forming a relationship with the high school counselor, student and his/her family is important and this relationship often carries over once the student is an enrolled Tech student.
Tennessee Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
Essential Functions:
Reports to the Director of Admissions and serves as a member of the Admissions Office team managing a recruitment territory to assist in achieving the enrollment goals of the University. Travels extensively (both daytime and overnight) to visit high schools and community colleges within a specific recruitment region in Tennessee. Other recruitment areas, including out-of-state, may be assigned as necessary. Responsibilities include making oral presentations to groups of various sizes both on and off campus, maintaining accurate records in prospect databases, participating in various special events on campus, interviewing prospective students and their families, and providing information concerning (but not limited to) admission requirements/policies/procedures, transfer assistance, general financial aid and scholarship information, residence life, and cost of attendance.
Provides support to prospects, visiting students, applicants, and admitted students via telephone, email, chat, social media, and in-person. Coordinates events and special functions of the office.
Physical Demands:
Most of the job is performed sitting, whether at a desk or a conference table (for presentations). Some lifting/moving of boxes (publications, t-shirts) is required periodically. Manual dexterity is important in communicating with students and parents. A large portion of our communication is done electronically on a computer and sending emails.
Special Instructions:
Applicants are required to electronically upload a cover letter, resume, copy of transcripts (official transcripts required upon hire), and complete contact information for three references. References will be contacted at a later date. Submission of materials is the applicant's responsibility. Applications without all required materials are incomplete and will not be considered.
Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience. Pay grade 6.
Benefits Information:
Tennessee Tech offers a competitive benefits package. Benefits include the accumulation of two vacation days per month and one sick leave day per month, and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Strong interpersonal skills. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel (both daytime and overnight). Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, a high level of energy and initiative, and a comprehensive understanding of computer systems and various software packages. Ability to establish immediate rapport and to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, and high school counselors.
Responsible, self-motivated, and able to convey an enthusiastic message about Tech. Must be a team player and a self-starter with the ability to multitask and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Writing, public speaking and public relations, marketing, or guidance/education/counseling courses. Previous work with high school or college students. Demonstration of ability to coordinate projects.
