Job Summary
Provide a world-class learner experience for Central Arizona College students. Carry out instruction-related duties, in addition to other faculty duties and responsibilities, in accordance with the philosophy, vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the College.
All CAC faculty positions are district positions and faculty may be asked to teach on any campus to meet student demand. This position will primarily involve teaching at our Maricopa and Signal Peak campuses.
Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of biological courses at a college-level including, but not limited to:
Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Introduction to Human Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology I & II, and Microbiology. Though a variety of courses may be taught, the emphasis of this position is on Human Anatomy & Physiology. Courses may be taught in different modalities (e.g., face-to-face, online, hybrid, and live stream online), on different schedules (e.g., 16-week and 8-week formats), and at a variety of times (e.g., morning, afternoon, or evening). - Provide and present course content and context in lecture and lab, in-person and online, utilizing effective teaching and learning techniques for students.
- Employ a variety of assessment tools; evaluate, grade, and comment on student work to facilitate and ensure student progress through the course; assess curriculum for its effectiveness in meeting student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrate effective communication with students in a variety of ways, for example including, but not limited to: e-mail, online discussions, live online sessions, online messaging, phone, face-to-face, and/or other modes as needed.
- Propose, develop, and assess instructional materials, curriculum, courses, programs, and assessment tools as necessary to meet the needs of students and the community.
- Review and update curriculum, schedules, text selection, laboratories, and syllabi in collaboration with other faculty and the Division Chair.
- Write syllabi and course or lab outlines/schedules; establish and maintain office hours per college policy; maintain records of student attendance, progress, and performance; complete and return required reports to the appropriate office by established due date.
- Assist in recruitment and retention of students, primarily in the instructional setting, through the development and implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies for diverse populations; support recruitment and community outreach events on and off campus.
- Pursue and participate in professional development for continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field with 18 graduate credits in Biological Sciences from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Implementing effective pedagogies to teach a variety of college-level biology courses, with emphasis on human anatomy and physiology.
- Teaching and developing college-level courses in a variety of modalities (e.g., face-to-face, online asynchronous,live stream, and hybrid).
- Effectively communicating and collaborating with a diverse population of college faculty and staff.
- Developing, implementing, and using assessment at a variety of levels (e.g., student, course, program, and institutional-level).
- Creating, updating, and improving course curriculum.
- Engaging the community through various forms of outreach.
Dependent upon educational level
Teaching load is thirty-equated hours per academic year
