Director I – Learning Centers
The Director I – Learning Centers provides operational leadership and administrative oversight for assigned campus learning centers within the College's multi-campus system. This role supports the implementation of district-wide testing and tutoring strategies and promotes high-quality academic and research services that advance student success and equitable access to information resources.
The Director I manages day-to-day learning center operations, supervises staff, supports testing and tutoring development, oversees local budget allocations, and collaborates with faculty and department to advance academic support student success initiatives.
ResponsibilitiesOperations & Service Delivery
- Oversee daily operations of assigned campus Tutoring and Testing Center services.
- Ensure the effective delivery of tutoring, testing, proctoring, and related academic support services.
- Support implementation of district-wide tutoring and testing policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Monitor service effectiveness, identify operational challenges, and recommend improvements.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional, support, testing, tutoring, and student employees as assigned.
- Coordinate staffing schedules, assignments, workflow, and coverage for tutoring and testing operations.
- Recruit, train, and support qualified tutors and testing personnel.
- Develop and implement training for tutors and testing staff related to service expectations, academic integrity, confidentiality, testing procedures, and student support.
Tutoring Services
- Develop and coordinate tutoring services that support student learning and academic achievement.
- Identify high-demand courses and subject areas requiring additional tutoring resources.
- Coordinate individual, small-group, drop-in, and virtual tutoring opportunities.
- Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to identify courses and students that may benefit from tutoring services.
- Establish appropriate tutor qualifications, training, expectations, and performance standards.
- Monitor tutoring utilization and effectiveness and make recommendations for improving student access and outcomes.
- Promote tutoring services to increase student awareness and participation.
Testing Services
- Oversee the administration of secure, professional, and accessible testing services.
- Coordinate faculty testing, make-up examinations, online examinations, proctored assessments, and other approved testing services.
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for receiving, securing, administering, documenting, and returning examinations.
- Coordinate testing schedules and staffing based on examination volume and student demand.
- Work with faculty and appropriate College personnel to ensure approved testing accommodations are implemented accurately and consistently.
Student Support & Success
- Provide a welcoming and student-centered environment that supports academic achievement.
- Assist students in understanding and accessing tutoring and testing services.
- Identify barriers that may prevent students from utilizing academic support services.
- Develop strategies to improve student awareness, participation, and utilization.
- Support institutional efforts related to retention, persistence, course completion, and student success.
- Use student feedback and service data to identify opportunities for improvement.
Technology & Innovation
- Support implementation and effective use of tutoring and testing technologies.
- Maintain familiarity with tutoring management, scheduling, appointment, testing, and reporting systems.
- Support virtual tutoring and technology-enabled academic support services.
- Evaluate emerging technologies that may improve student access and service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with Information Technology and other College departments to resolve technology issues affecting tutoring and testing services.
- Ensure appropriate use of technology while maintaining student privacy, testing security, and academic integrity.
Budget & Resource Management
- Manage assigned campus or program budget allocations.
