Para educator Special Education – 2026-27
Full‑time, 184 days annually; 6½ hours per day.
2 positions available.
Duties- Assists in instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource‑room or center‑based settings.
- Managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
- Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
- Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of start date.
- Must have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter credits, or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passed the Para Educator exam or Para Pro exam (documentation required).
- Good communication, interpersonal, and record‑keeping skills.
- Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff; supervise students; take direction; maintain regular attendance; complete an assigned day.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions; not limited to toileting, feeding and self‑care procedures, implementing behavioral management program; maintaining student data; working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
- Must be physically present in the building.
$20.85–$25.50 per hour for K‑12 experience, Director’s Qualifying (DOQ).
$22.00–$26.65 per hour for K‑12 DOQ holders with associate degree or 60 semester credits.
$22.85–$27.50 per hour for K‑12 DOQ holders with BA degree.
Additional Pay AdjustmentsSpecial Education Paras serving center‑based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
Special Education Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour;
Special Education Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
