Duties- Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center‑based settings.
- Manages behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
- Monitors and records student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
- Manages physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
High School Diploma or equivalent. Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
Must have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter credits, obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passed the Para Educator exam or Para Pro exam. Documentation will be required.
Good communication, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills. Ability/desire to work with technology and computers. Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff. Ability to supervise students. Ability to take direction. Ability to maintain regular attendance, including completing an assigned day.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical tasks, data functions and people functions, such as toileting, feeding and self‑care procedures, implementing behavioral management programs, maintaining student data, and working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior. Must be physically working in the building.
Rate of Pay- $20.85/hour to $25.50/hour DOQ with K‑12 experience
- $22.00/hour to $26.65/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience
- $22.85/hour to $27.50/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience
- Special Ed Paras serving Center based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
- Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour. Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
- * Candidates must have completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits, obtained an associate's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or have passed the Para Educator exam or Para Pro exam. Documentation will be required.
- Insurance benefits available for assigned positions of 6 hours or more per day.
