As a Pain Management Nurse Practitioner, you will be at the heart of diagnosing, managing, and coordinating care for patients presenting with pain in the inpatient setting
-while working alongside some of the most respected neuroscience physicians in the Midwest.

- Primary Practice Setting:
Abbott Northwestern
- Minneapolis - Provide inpatient pain management consultations, manage acute and chronic pain conditions, and support post-surgical care.
- Practice independently as the sole pain Nurse Practitioner at United Hospital with the benefit of support from colleagues across the system who are just a phone call away.
- Opportunities to engage in tele-pain consults at Allina's three metro hospitals.
- Average census of 10 to 14 patients per day split between providing new patient consults and rounding on follow-up patients

Job Description:
Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations as part of a physician/nurse team in accordance with the designated specialty. Works in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team.
Principle Responsibilities
- Provides clinical care for patients
- Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
- Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
- Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
- Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
- Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
- Refers for specialty care when determined.
- Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
- Participates in health care team
- Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
