The role is intended to start in Summer 2027
Work Location: This Role has an on-site working model, with the employee working four (4) days a week in the office, located in Coon Rapids, MN.
What You’ll Work On
This isn’t a “watch and learn” internship—you’ll own projects and see them through.
You’ll focus on improving inspection and quality processes across key manufacturing work centers, including:
Identify and eliminate inspection-related waste
- Evaluate current inspection methods, notes, and capabilities
- Conduct studies to validate and improve process effectiveness
- Recommend practical upgrades to inspection capabilities
- Support Lean initiatives and Continuous Improvement (CIF) projects
- Select and lead a few improvement projects from start to finish
- Audit and streamline ~500 controlled documents (Work Instructions/JIs)
- Reduce duplication and consolidate overlapping content
- Use tools (including AI, if you’re savvy!) to modernize documentation
- Work directly with operators, engineers, and quality teams
- See how your ideas translate into real-world improvements
- Lunch & Learns with input from leaders across the business
- Off-site social activities with fellow interns
- Exposure to real business challenges and decision-making
- Opportunities to present your work and impact
- Pursuing a Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related degree
- Completed at least 1 year of college coursework
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Interest in manufacturing, quality, and continuous improvement
- Comfortable working both independently and on the shop floor
- Bonus: strong writing skills or interest in improving documentation (especially using digital tools or AI)
- Work on projects that actually matter
- Gain real manufacturing and shop floor experience
- Build skills in Lean, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
- Make a visible impact that goes beyond the internship
